Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle baking soda over visible cat urine spots in your carpet and let it sit for about an hour before vacuuming up. Baking soda acts as a deodorizer as well as dries up recent cat urine incidents.

    • 2

Sprinkle a carpet deodorizer that is in a powder form and is safe to use with pets and children. Cover your carpet with the product, let it sit for several minutes and then vacuum it up.

    • 3

Wash your walls and baseboards with an all-purpose cleaner and sponge. You can either spray the walls or the sponge to wash them. This will get much of the cigarette smoke odor out as the smoke tends to stick to walls.

    • 4

Make a mixture of two parts water and one part white vinegar, mix it up and pour it into a spray bottle for a natural cleaning solution. This solution can be used on hard-wood floors with a mop as well as your walls followed by wiping it down with a sponge. You can also spray stains in your carpet with the solution that will dry in your carpet and make it smell better.

Keep your windows and sliding glass doors open as often as possible to let fresh air in and odors out.

Steam-clean your carpets about once a month with either a purchased steam cleaner or one rented from your local retailer. Once the odors subside, you can steam-clean less frequently.
