Review the instructions for your kitchen counter top to see what products the manufacturer recommends. Check your other kitchen surfaces for manufacturer recommendations as well. Glass cooktop manufacturers recommend cleaning products that remove the gray marks or food stains, but don’t usually make suggestions for sanitizing the surface.
Combine 50 percent rubbing alcohol and 50 percent water in a bottle and shake. Use this mixture for sanitizing granite or laminate counter tops.
Use 3 percent hydrogen peroxide as a sanitizer. Hydrogen peroxide is safe, but needs to stay on the surface for a few minutes to sanitize. Place some hydrogen peroxide in a tumbler or small container and clean your kitchen brushes and sponges by letting them soak. Wipe the counter top or cutting board with a cloth or sponge wet with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide or squirt from a spray bottle. Let it sit a few minutes and rinse.
Sanitize your stainless steel or porcelain kitchen sink with a mixture of a half cup white or cider vinegar and 1 cup water. The acidity of the vinegar sanitizes as it removes water spots and calcium or hard-water residue. If your sink needs scrubbing, sprinkle it with baking soda and scrub with a brush or sponge saturated with full-strength vinegar. You may see some fizzing. This combination of vinegar and baking soda is also good for cleaning your sink drain.
