Removing Tape From a Wooden Door

Teenagers are notorious for attaching posters to their bedroom doors. Tape is often the adhesive of choice. Unfortunately, removing the tape once the poster is no longer desired can be a bit tricky. If the door the tape is stuck to is wood, and it's painted, you must try to remove the tape without lifting away any of the paint. There are several techniques you can use to successfully remove the left-behind tape from a wood door. Whichever technique you use, clean the wood door after removing the tape to get rid of any left behind products. A rag soaked with hot water and two drips of a dish soap that is labeled as a de-greaser are all you need. Wipe down the door and allow it to dry naturally.

Instructions

    • 1

Saturate the tape with vegetable oil. You can pour it or sponge it over the tape, then let it sit for five to 10 minutes so it can begin loosening the tape adhesive. Carefully peel the tape away, applying more vegetable oil as needed.

Coat the tape with vinegar before going to bed. The acid from the vinegar will eat away at the adhesive but will leave the paint on the door intact. Pull the tape off the door when you wake up in the morning.

    • 3

Spray the tape and surrounding area with a water-displacing spray, such as Rocol or WD-40. Wait five to 10 minutes for the spray to work its magic on the tape adhesive. Peel the tape away slowly, spraying more water-displacing spray if need be.

Spread peanut butter over the tape on the wood door. Peanut butter actually works as a lubricant, because of the peanut oil. Give the peanut butter five minutes to detach the adhesive from the wood so that you can pull it free.
