How to Remove Stuck Blue Scotch Tape From Fiberglass

Cover fiberglass bathtubs and showers with drop cloths to safeguard them during bathroom remodeling projects. Blue Scotch tape effectively adheres drop cloths to fiberglass, protecting tubs and showers from accidental paint splatters. When finished painting, however, homeowners may find the blue painter’s tape bonded to fiberglass tubs or shower stalls. The longer blue Scotch tape dwells on fiberglass, the more firmly bonded the adhesives become. Promptly remove blue Scotch painter’s tape from fiberglass surfaces using common household products.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat the blue Scotch tape with a hair dryer. Direct hot air onto the blue painter’s tape for around 15 seconds to soften the adhesive.

    • 2

Pick the edge of the blue tape with your fingernail. Pull the loosened edge and peel entire blue strip off the fiberglass.

    • 3

Rub the remaining adhesive with your finger. Roll the sticky residue into a wad, and then pull the adhesive wad off the fiberglass.

    • 4

Moisten a cloth sparingly with acetone-based nail polish remover if unyielding adhesive remains. Gently rub the adhesive with the solvent until the sticky substance comes off the fiberglass.

    • 5

Saturate another cloth with water. Wipe the solvent and adhesive fragments off the fiberglass surface.

    • 6

Wipe the fiberglass with paper towels. Absorb all moisture from the fiberglass.
