Any scratches that are on your counter top will show up even more if the surface is dirty. Keep your counter top intact by using a household cleaner designed for kitchen surfaces. After cleaning, use a disinfecting spray to kill germs and keep the counter tops clean for food preparation. Regular cleaning can also help prevent minor scratching; food debris can dry on the surface and create scratches or chips when removed.
Get rid of most minor scratches by using a mildly abrasive cleaner. You can purchase a cleaner designed for countertops or simply add baking soda or table salt to any liquid soap. Apply the mixture with a sponge and rub to gently sand away the scratches. Rinse the cleaner away and dry the counter top for a like-new finish. This method will remove most Corian scratches and should be the first technique you try.
If your Corian scratches are large, or if they resist removal with the table salt or baking soda method, then you will need to use a Corian cleaning pad. These pads act like a fine sandpaper and gently lift away layers of Corian until the scratch is gone. Since the cleaning pads, also called peach pads, can cause the Corian to discolor, they should be the method of last resort. Check the counter top frequently as you work to remove the scratch, and stop using the pad as soon as the scratch is gone.
Avoid using the Corian counter top as a cutting board. Using a sharp knife or other hard instrument to remove food from the countertop can also cause damage. Placing a hot item directly on Corian can cause damage as well and create an uneven surface that is prone to scratching.
