How to Clean a Burn on a Stove

No matter how careful a cook you are, you will have to deal with stains on your stove top range. Scrubbing the burn off with a scour pad is an easy solution, but for those concerned about scratching the paint on the stove, there are other ways to do this. One method, which uses basic household items, is environmentally friendly. If this method doesn't work, however, you should opt for a stronger chemical cleaner, but do so with caution to prevent taking paint off the stove.

Instructions

  1. Baking Soda

    • 1

Mix one part of water with one part of baking soda to create a paste. Mix this with your hands until the paste is homogeneous.

    • 2

Rub the paste on the stain. Remove burner grills if you need to access space under the grill easily. Use a rag to apply the paste and rub it in, gently scrubbing the stain. The paste will begin to absorb the color of the stain as it scours it off.

    • 3

Spray the paste with vinegar. The paste will bubble and become liquid, making it easy to wipe it up.

    • 4

Wipe the baking soda and vinegar up with a rag.

    Trisodium Phosphate

    • 5

Put on rubber gloves. Open kitchen windows to ventilate the room.

    • 6

Fill a bucket with one gallon of water. Add ½ tbsp. of trisodium phosphate to the water. Always add chemical to water rather than adding water to chemicals to prevent splashing.

    • 7

Dip a rag into the bucket, saturating it in the solution and then squeezing the excess back into the bucket.

    • 8

Rub the rag on the burn. Work small sections of the burn stain until that one spot is removed and move on. This prevents accidentally stripping paint off the stove in any one area.
