How to Clean Granite Floors With Diamond Pads

Diamond polishing pads use hundreds of tiny industrial polishing diamonds to restore shine to stone floors, including marble, polished concrete and granite. This eco-friendly cleaning method allows you to avoid abrasive chemical products, but you will need a mechanical buffer for proper use. Though numerous manufacturers offer diamond polishing pads, the basics of use remain the same; however, you should always consult each product's instructions for specific guidelines.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep or dry-mop the granite floor thoroughly before cleaning with diamond pads. This helps reduce wear on the pads and protects your buffer.

    • 2

Remove the existing pads on your floor buffer, if there are any, and replace them with diamond polishing pads.

    • 3

Add water to your buffer's polish tank. With diamond pads, you don't need to use chemical polish.

    • 4

Set your buffer to a reduced speed setting, if available.

    • 5

Slowly move the buffer across the granite floor, starting at the back of the room. Make your way to the front and turn clockwise to head back again. Clean in “strips,” pushing the buffer at a slow and steady pace. Consult the diamond pad's instructions to find out how many passes you should make -- this depends on the brand and grit of the pad.

Remove the diamond pads immediately after cleaning. Rinse them under hot water, and allow them to air-dry before the next use.
