How to Kill Bacteria on a Quartz Countertop

The countertop is exposed to bacteria from your hands and food preparation. Raw meats sliced on the counter leave juices behind that contain microscopic bacteria. Similar to other natural stone countertops, your quartz countertop surface requires special cleaning and care techniques to maintain its condition. Since cleanliness and sanitation is vital in the kitchen, you must kill bacteria on the countertop using supplies and methods that won't damage the quartz.

Things You'll Need

  • Bowl
  • 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent
  • Spoon
  • Sponge
  • Clean cloths
  • Bucket
  • 1/4 cup bleach

Instructions

      Pour 2 cups of warm water into a bowl. Add 1/2 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Stir the ingredients together to make a soapy solution.

      Dampen a sponge in the soap solution. Wring out excess moisture.

      Wipe off your quartz countertop surface with the detergent solution to remove stains and dirt. Moisten a damp cloth with water and wipe the countertop to rinse it. Dry the surface with another cloth.

      Bleach effectively kills germs, bacteria, mold and mildew on countertop surfaces.

      Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add 1/4 cup of bleach.

      Put on rubber gloves to protect skin from the drying effects of household bleach. Saturate a clean cloth in the diluted bleach solution. Squeeze out excess moisture.

      Wipe down your quartz countertop with the bleach solution. Allow the bleach solution to remain on your countertop for one minute to kill germs and bacteria.

      Rinse the countertop with a damp cloth. Dry the surface with another cloth.
