How to Remove Graffiti From Red Brick With a Pressure Washer

Even though graffiti is difficult to get rid of, you can remove it from red brick with a pressure washer. However, improper graffiti removal will damage the red brick. Using the power washer too aggressively will cause the red brick to turn orange and may lead to structural damage. In addition, pressure washers can cause harm to you and those around you. To prevent possible safety hazards, read and follow all the warnings and directions for your specific power washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Place absorbent mats over nearby runoff drains. These mats will prevent the graffiti-removal chemicals from gaining access to creeks and rivers.

    • 2

Put on rubber gloves and safety goggles. Secure the water hose to the pressure washer and set the washer on the lowest power and water flow setting.

    • 3

Hold the pressure washer three feet away from the brick and moisten the graffiti and red brick.

    • 4

Pour a small amount of water-based paint stripper in a paint tray and saturate a clean paintbrush in the liquid. Brush the paint stripper on the red brick until you have covered the graffiti. Allow the paint stripper to sit on the red brick for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Scrub the graffiti off the red brick gently with a soft-bristled scrub brush.

    • 6

Rinse the red brick clean with the pressure washer set on the lowest power and water flow setting.
