How to Remove Shoe Scuff Marks From Painted Wood

Scuff marks caused by rubber-soled shoes are common on floors, including painted wood floors. Wooden baseboards also get scuffed as people brush up against them with their shoes. If your baseboard, floor or another painted wood surface is scuffed up, try one of several methods that may remove the unsightly marks.

Instructions

    • 1

Rub the scuff marks with a sponge moistened with soapy water. This may be all that is necessary to remove the marks, especially if the wood is painted with a glossy finish or is sealed with a protective finish.

    • 2

Dampen a cleaning eraser -- available where cleaning products are sold -- and genlty rub it directly on the scuff marks. The cleaning eraser may lift the scuff marks away.

    • 3

Erase the shoe scuff marks off a painted wood surface with a pencil eraser. Sometimes scuff marks come right off. Be gentle, so that you don't also take off the paint's finish.

    • 4

Apply a spray lubricant or rubbing alcohol on a clean rag and wipe the scuff marks off.
