How to Remove a Stainless Steel Film Cover

The term "stainless steel" is a name for a group of metal alloys, each of which contain at least 10.5 percent chromium. Stainless steel is easy to clean and resistant to corrosion, which makes it a desirable material for making items such as appliances, pipes, cookware and tools. Some stainless steel items, such as appliances, often come from the store with a protective plastic film that covers the surface of the stainless steel. This film relies on static electricity to make it adhere to the stainless steel. Removing this film is one of the first things to do once you get your stainless steel item home.

Plastic scraper or credit card
Spray bottle
White vinegar
Paper towels

Instructions

  Look for the edge of the protective film. This edge often will be aligned with the edge of the front face of the appliance. The edge also may have a tab designed for making removal easier.

  Insert the tip of a plastic scraper or a credit card between the edge of the film and the stainless steel. Don't scratch the stainless steel, but simply use the plastic to wedge the film away from the stainless steel surface.

  Grasp the section of the film that you raised off of the surface of the stainless steel.

  Pull the section of film away from the stainless steel. Pull downward if you are starting at the top of the product. Pull upward if you are starting at the bottom of the product.

  Spray the stainless steel with white vinegar and wipe it with a paper towel to remove any residue from the film.
