Removing Etched Marks From Travertine Floors

Travertine is a natural, calcite-based stone that is easily susceptible to etching. Common household cleaners and items -- including orange juice and soda pop -- will leave etch marks when they come in contact with a travertine surface. You cannot remove the etching by cleaning the travertine floors, and the damage will not simply go away on its own. However, you can remove the etching with polishing powder. However, if the etching is severe, you must hire a professional stone restorer to remove the problem area.
