How to Get Rid of a Crab Leg Smell in a Refrigerator

A lack of air circulation and strong food smell is a combination that leads to unpleasant odors in the refrigerator. Strong-smelling foods, such as onions, fish or seafood, permeate the inside of the refrigerator, especially when they're not stored properly. Even after crab legs are no longer stored in the refrigerator, the fishy smell takes time to dissipate. Clean and deodorize your refrigerator to avoid being greeted by crab leg smell every time you open the refrigerator.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the contents of the refrigerator into a cooler to keep food cold while you clean and deodorize.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of hot water. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of white vinegar to the bucket.

    • 3

Saturate a sponge with the baking soda and vinegar mixture. Squeeze out excess moisture.

    • 4

Wipe down the interior of the refrigerator to remove any juices or stains associated with the crab legs. Rinse the sponge as needed and apply more baking soda solution. Continue to wipe down the interior of the refrigerator to remove other stains and spills, and to deodorize the interior.

    • 5

Dry the inside of the refrigerator with clean cloths. Leave the door propped open for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the interior to finish drying and let fresh air in.

Lemon juice deodorizes the refrigerator and leaves a fresh scent, too.

Put the food back in the refrigerator. Moisten a cotton ball with lemon juice. Place the cotton ball in the refrigerator for further deodorization.
