How to Clean Enamal Cookware

Porcelain-enameled cookware comes in a variety of colors, making it an attractive option in the kitchen. Enamel pots and pans usually have the porcelain coating applied over sturdy steel or iron. The enamel creates a rust-proof item that is durable and distributes heat evenly. Cleaning the enamel pots and pans ensures it looks its best and prevents the chipping that can ruin this type of cookware.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the pots and pans by hand in hot, soapy water. Use a standard liquid dish detergent and a plastic or nylon scrub pad. Metal scrubbers can damage the enamel.

    • 2

Fill the cookware with hot water if food is burned on to the interior. Add 2 teaspoons of baking powder for every quart of water.

    • 3

Soak the cookware with the baking soda water for 10 to 20 minutes to loosen the food. Wash as usual in soapy water.

    • 4

Fill the pot with equal parts white vinegar and water to remove lime and hard water stains from the inside of enamel pots and kettles. Boil for five minutes, then wash as usual.
