How to Cover Up Smells and Odors in the Kitchen

Kitchen odors can come from several sources, including foods that produce a strong odor when cooked, foods that are spoiled, and burnt food. Bad smells and odors in the kitchen sometimes travel and permeate other foods as well as the kitchen air itself. Avoid unpleasant smells by eliminating the offenders and covering up the remaining smells and odors.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe counters and mop floors with solutions of water and vinegar. For slight odors, use two teaspoons of vinegar in 16 ounces of water. For major odors, go with a 1:1 ratio.

    • 2

Simmer vinegar water or potpourri in water in a saucepan to neutralize or cover up unpleasant odors.

    • 3

Clean your kitchen counters with baking soda made into a paste. Leave an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator and in other spaces that harbor smells to absorb some of the odor.

    • 4

Light up. Candles can add pleasant scents to the room as they burn, and incense works in the same fashion.

    • 5

Place air fresheners around the kitchen and near the garbage container. Use sprays to freshen the air.
