How to Clean Silicone Sealer Off of Porcelain Tile

Silicone sealer typically lifts readily off a tile floor when scrubbed or scraped. Porcelain tile is more durable than stone or other types of tile, so using mildly abrasive products should not damage it. Despite its durability, always test your removal method on an inconspicuous area of tile first to make sure it will not cause damage. Removal methods include scraping the silicone sealer off and using chemicals like acetone.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape the silicone sealer gently with a razor blade scraper. Wear cut-resistant gloves and push the scraper away from your body. Retract the blade as soon as you are finished.

    • 2

Apply an acetone product to a damp, mildly abrasive scrub pad. Scrub the tile gently to remove any lingering silicone sealer residue.

    • 3

Use a more abrasive product like silica sand mixed with water if the acetone fails to remove the residue. Buff it out with a scrub pad.
