How to Repair a Wall Scuff

Keeping painted walls in pristine condition is almost impossible, as scuffs are inevitable. Furniture and other objects commonly bump against walls during renovation and moving projects, leaving dark marks on walls. Dirt smears are also prevalent on walls. Not only are wall scuffs unsightly, but they also become a greater challenge to eradicate over time. Promptly remove wall scuffs to restore a wall’s appearance and prevent lasting marks.

Things You'll Need

  • Liquid dishwashing soap
  • Pail
  • Spoon
  • 3 cloths
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Bowl

Instructions

    • 1

      Squirt 1/4 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap into a pail. Add 1 quart of lukewarm water, and then mix the solution.

      Saturate a cloth in the solution. Scrub the scuffed wall with the soapy cloth, using light pressure and circular rubbing motions. Dissolve as much scuffing as possible.

      Create a mildly abrasive homemade paste if stubborn wall scuffs persist. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of dishwashing soap, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of water in a bowl.

      Dip another cloth in the paste. Scrub the remaining wall scuffs with the paste using light pressure and circular rubbing motions.

      Dampen a fresh cloth with water. Wipe all soap and paste off the wall. Rinse the wall’s surface thoroughly.

      Buff the wall with a towel. Absorb all moisture to prevent streaks.
