Don’t assume you must abandon your antique light fixture, or even a newer model, because of exterior rust. If the rust is only a surface, aesthetic-type issue and not indicative of an internal deterioration problem that interferes with the workings of the light fixture, you can remove the rust. Turn off the power to the fixture before you tackle the rust stains.

Dust off the fixture to remove any surface dirt.

Cut a fresh lemon in half and squeeze its juice into a bowl.

Saturate a soft, clean cloth in the lemon juice. Wring out excess juice.

Sprinkle salt liberally on the moist cloth.

Polish the rust-stained area with the moistened cloth, until the rust stain disappears.
