How Do I Get Off Burnt Noodles That Are Stuck in a Pan?

Kids scream, cell phones ring, guest arrive early and suddenly the Thai noodle dinner you worked so hard on goes from perfect to burnt. Noodles don’t turn to charcoal like other foods. When noodles burn, they become a sticky, mushy mess. Skip trying to scrape the burnt mess at the bottom of the pan; you will only gum up your spatula. Instead, resign yourself to soaking or freezing the burnt noodles before you try to get them off the bottom of the pan.

Instructions

  1. Saltwater Soak

    • 1

Fill the pan with water, and add 1/4 cup of salt to the water. Stir until the salt dissolves.

    • 2

Allow the pan to soak overnight.

    • 3

Bring the water in the pan to a boil, and then remove it from the heat.

    • 4

Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spatula to remove any stuck-on food.

    • 5

      Wash the pan as usual.

    Freezing Method

    • 6

Submerse the bottom of the pan in cold water immediately to stop the cooking process.

    • 7

Dry off the bottom of the pan, and place it in the freezer for a minimum of three hours.

    • 8

Remove the pan from the freezer, and scrape off the frozen food with a wooden spatula. If it remains, boil the pan in a saltwater solution as outlined above.
