How to Make Laminate Floors & Countertops Shine

Laminate, which is a durable surface product used to make floors and countertops, is usually a more affordable option than other types of material. Laminate is often shiny when it is first installed, but this shine can fade with time. Restoring it may not be possible without damaging it or voiding a warranty. However, you can make your laminate floors and countertops shine by maintaining them properly and avoiding the things that can dull their surfaces.

Use a slightly damp cloth to clean up spills or messes. Do not use abrasive products such as steel wool. Also, do not use detergents or household cleaners -- unless they are recommended by the manufacturer -- because they can damage the floors boards.

    • 3

Sweep or vacuum your laminate floors frequently, especially in sandy areas where the constant scratching can quickly dull the finish.
