How to Get Burnt Food Off of Glassware

Cooking food at home saves money, but many people do not want to deal with the mess afterward. Food often sticks to pots and pans, and this can take the enjoyment out of cooking a meal. When food becomes stuck to glassware, you can spend valuable after-meal moments trying to scrub it off the surface. But instead of wasting time cleaning burnt food off glassware, use common items around your kitchen to make cleanup a breeze.

  • Baking soda
  • Nonabrasive sponge
  • White distilled vinegar
  • Effervescent antacid tablets
  • Oven cleaner
  • Garbage bag

Instructions

  1. Baking Soda

    • 1

      Place the burnt glassware into the kitchen sink.

      Cover the burnt area with 1 quart of warm water and 3 tablespoons of baking soda.

      Soak the glassware for 30 minutes to one hour, and then scrub it with a nonabrasive sponge.

    Baking Soda and Vinegar

      Dip a nonabrasive sponge into white distilled vinegar.

      Sprinkle baking soda over the damp sponge.

      Scrub the glassware with the sponge to remove the burnt food.

    Effervescent Antacid

      Fill the glassware with water.

      Add four to six effervescent antacid tablets to the water.

      Allow the glassware to soak for one hour.

      Scrub the loosened food with a nonabrasive sponge.

    Oven Cleaner

      Spray oven cleaner over the burnt food residue, in a well-ventilated location.

      Place the glassware into a garbage bag.

      Close the garbage bag tightly. Let the glassware soak overnight.

      Open the garbage bag in a well-ventilated location.

      Wash the glassware with warm, soapy water.
