How to Clean Burnt Spaghetti Off a Pot

Burnt spaghetti leaves a mess in a pot that is difficult to remove through normal washing. You can achieve results using only dish detergent, but you will have to soak it at least overnight to remove the burnt pasta, and even then, you will likely have to scrub. Adding just one extra ingredient, common to most households, makes the job easier.

Instructions

  1. Using Baking Soda

    • 1

Sprinkle baking soda in the pot, using enough to cover the spaghetti. Add enough water to cover the stuck spaghetti.

    • 2

Place the pot on your stove and turn the burner on. Bring the water to a rolling boil and then reduce the heat to let it simmer for 10 minutes.

    • 3

Turn off the stove and allow the water to cool. Take the pot to your kitchen sink. Scrub it with a soft kitchen sponge to remove the spaghetti.

    • 4

Add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent to the sponge and wash the pot as you normally would.

    Using Salt

    • 5

Place the pot in your kitchen sink. If the burned spaghetti is confined to the inside of the pot, fill the pot with hot water and add 4 teaspoons of salt.

    • 6

Leave the pot to soak for two hours. Wash the pot with a soft kitchen sponge and liquid dish detergent.

    • 7

Rinse the pot and dry it with a dishtowel.
