How to Clean Duets Blinds

Hunter Douglass makes Duette blinds that have a honeycomb design, making them more like shades than the typical mini-blinds with individual separated slats. This can pose an issue when it comes to cleaning them, especially if you are accustomed to cleaning and dusting blinds by slipping a duster through the individual slats. Luckily, Hunter Douglas has developed the shades to be soil and dust resistant. When they do become dirty, the blinds should be cleaned carefully and properly to prevent damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Run a duster from over the blinds to remove any surface dust.

    • 2

Vacuum the blinds with a brush attachment to remove stubborn dust and dirt, only if your Duette blinds are not constructed with Architelle Elan fabrics. If you are unsure, or do not have the product insert paperwork to check, do not use a vacuum to clean your blinds.

    • 3

Remove your Duette blinds from the windows and take the outdoors to blow off dust and dirt with an air compressor if you cannot vacuum your blinds.

    • 4

Spot clean your blinds with a slightly damp soapy sponge, as long as your Duette blinds are not from the Batiste, Opalessence, or Royale lines.

    • 5

Fill your bathtub 1/4 full with warm water and add enough mild detergent to create suds to soak your blinds. Do this only if your Duette blinds are not from the Classic, Commercial or Royale lines and are also not fabric-covered valances or the Opalessence Eclipse blinds.

    • 6

Rinse the blinds with cool water and hang them to dry before replacing them on the window.
