Do the New Shark Pockets Fit the Old Shark Pocket Mop?

Steam mops allow you to clean your vinyl, wood, laminate or stone floors without needing to use expensive or potentially toxic chemicals. Shark manufactures a line of steam mops intended for residential use. However, the old steam mop pockets that worked for the old machines may not fit on a new Shark steam mop.
  1. Mop Head Style

    • To determine whether your old mop heads will fit on your current shark steam mop, you need to take a look at the mop head style. If the mop head is made of rubber and if the pocket has Velcro straps that attach it to the mop head, the mop head will not fit on the new line of Shark steam mops. If the mop head has a pocket that simply slides on the mop head, it will fit on the new line.

    Mop Head Shape

    • There are several different mop head shapes that fit on the new mops and some of the old mop designs that didn’t require Velcro. All the triangular mop pockets will fit on the triangular mop heads, and the rectangular pockets will fit on all the rectangular heads. However, the triangular mop heads can't be used by some of the new Shark steam mops, including the Shark Vac-Then-Steam and the Shark Steam Mop S3101.

    Changing Mop Pockets

    • To install and change the mop head, let the mop cool completely so you don’t burn yourself. Remove the mop head by pressing the release button and pulling it out. Put your finger through the purple loop and pull the mop pocket off the head. Install a new one by putting your finger through the purple loop and pulling it on the mop head. Press the mop head back into the machine until you hear it click in place.

    Caring for Mop Pockets

    • Take care of the microfiber mop pockets to ensure they last as long as possible. Wash them on their own without other laundry items so they don’t pick up lint and other laundry debris. If they do, they could spread the lint to your floors. Wash the microfiber pads with liquid detergent, and don’t use fabric softeners or bleach as these will leave residue and could damage the microfiber, causing it to wear out sooner. Let the pads air dry or dry them on very low heat to preserve them. Purchase new mop pockets when the old ones get stained or dirty or if they begin to fray or tear.
