How to Clean Sapphire Glass

Sapphire glass -- a synthetically grown crystal that was first developed in France in the early 1900s -- is often used in fancy wrist watches, barcode scanners, digital cameras and home aquariums. The relatively inexpensive material is also known for being very durable and hard; it takes a lot of force to scratch sapphire glass. For this reason, it is also a component in some types of bullet-proof glass. Cleaning sapphire glass is fairly simple.

Read the instructions that came with your sapphire-glass item. The manufacturer of your aquarium, watch or camera may have special recommendations for what will work with your sapphire glass best.

Purchase a soft microfiber cleaning cloth that is designed to be used on sapphire glass. You can find these online at specialty dealers. These cloths are manufactured to be safe on the sapphire glass, as well as keep the glass' anti-shine coat intact.

Rub the surface of the glass gently, using circular motions to remove any smudges you can see. You don't need to use any cleaning solution; they can weaken your sapphire glass.
