How to Clean a Cavity Between Tile

No matter how clean your tiles are, if the cavity, or the grout, between them is dirty, the tile will look dirty. Since grout sits between the tiles and isn't as smooth as the surface of the tiles, dirt that easily wipes off the tiles accumulates in these spaces due to everyday use such as walking on a tile floor or preparing food on tile counter tops. Cleaning tile grout also keeps your counter tops or floors sanitary, ridding the area of bacteria as you get rid of the grime.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep or wipe off the surface of the tiles with a clean cloth to remove any debris from the surface.

    • 2

Apply tile grout cleaner to an old toothbrush. Rub the toothbrush in the cavities between the tiles where the grout is. Alternatively, you can dip the toothbrush into a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water and rub the toothbrush on the grout between the tiles.

    • 3

Allow the tile grout cleaner or bleach and water mixture to sit for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the cleanser to absorb the dirt.

    • 4

Rub a clean, damp cloth over the tile grout. If the tile is on your floor, mop the entire surface of the floor with a clean mop and warm, soapy water. Otherwise, use a clean cloth with warm, soapy water over the surface.
