How to Bleach a Toilet

From bacteria to rust, reasons for unsightly stains inside your toilet vary. Adding bleach to your toilet removes these stains while also killing bacteria. Bacteria thrive not only in your toilet bowl but also in the rim and the holes along the underside of the rim. Introducing the bleach to the toilet properly and allowing it to work for a designated period of time optimizes the bleach's whitening and cleaning effectiveness.

Instructions

  1. Toilet Bowl

    • 1

Cover both hands with rubber or latex gloves and raise your toilet's lid.

    • 2

Pour a quarter cup of bleach directly into the water inside the toilet bowl. Hold the measuring cup close to the water when pouring to prevent any bleach from splashing. Maintain a safe distance from the interior of the bowl to prevent the inhalation of bleach fumes.

    • 3

Distribute the bleach and water solution throughout the bowl using a toilet brush. Include the underside of the rim and the entrance to the drain hole.

    • 4

Allow the bleach to remain in the water for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Flush the toilet. Scrub the inside of the bowl thoroughly with the toilet bowl brush
