How to Clean Couch Cushions Without Shrinkage

Instead of taking the covers off your couch cushions and washing them, you can hand-wash them while they are still on the cushions. This is especially useful when you are unable to remove the covers from the cushions. Hand-washing the covers prevents them from shrinking during cleaning, which is sometimes the result of machine-washing cushion covers. You can hand-wash couch cushions using a simple mixture of soap, or laundry detergent and water.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum the couch cushions thoroughly to remove any loose dirt, dust and other debris.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with water, and add a few drops of dish soap to the bottle. Spray the couch cushions, in small sections at a time, and wipe them down with a cloth to clean them. Alternatively, mix ¼ a cup of laundry detergent with 1 cup of warm water, using a blender. Continue mixing until the mixture turns into a stiff foam. Wipe this foam over your couch cushions with a cloth. Remove the foam using a clean, damp cloth. Repeat these steps as needed, until the couch cushions are clean.

Allow the couch cushions to dry when you are finished cleaning.
