How to Kill Flies the Old-Fashioned Way

In many situations, the old way is often the best way. Using an old-fashioned fly swatter for killing flies, for example, is the safest, and often most satisfying means of dispatching annoying flies from your house. Flies can contaminate food with bacteria and viruses, fly in your face or even into your mouth, and just be an all-around menace. As such, flies can be both a mental and physical health hazard. Unfortunately for you, flies are also pretty fast. But unfortunately for the fly, by using a fly swatter, your problem can be over in one swift flick of the wrist.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the fly swatter in your dominant hand.

    • 2

Locate a fly by following its sound. The quick beating of its wings creates a recognizable humming sound. Once you have spotted the fly, try to follow it with your eyes until it lands.

    • 3

Approach the fly slowly when it lands on a flat surface, away from people, food or breakable items.

    • 4

Move the swatter into position no less than a foot above the fly.

    • 5

Swat the fly using the fly swatter using a quick snap of your wrist to propel the swatter toward your target. If you miss, wait for the fly to land in a safe place and try again.

    • 6

Clean up the dead fly with a paper towel or other means without using your hands. Flys are known carriers of many diseases.
