All Formica laminate surfaces are impregnated with melamine resin, which provides easy cleanup without the need for waxing or polishing. The Formica Group does not manufacture any type of Formica laminate polish and does not recommend using polish of any kind on its surfaces for regular cleaning purposes.
The Formica Group recommends cleaning the laminate surface with a cotton cloth and a non-abrasive liquid cleaner. Rinse the surface using a clean, damp cotton cloth and dry it with a soft, clean cloth. Sculptured or matte finishes may require the use of a nylon bristle brush. Remove dull smears from high gloss Formica laminate finishes by using a mild glass cleaner. Keep your Formica laminate floor clean with routine sweeping or vacuuming. The Formica Group recommends using a Formica Flooring laminate floor cleaner to remove spots that cannot be cleaned by normal sweeping or vacuuming.
Never use harsh chemicals such as toilet bowl or oven cleaner on your Formica laminate surfaces. These products may permanently lighten the color of the laminate. Indelible markers, newsprint and the ink from store receipts may stain the laminate. Some stains may be removed or improved by applying a paste of baking soda and water. Lightened colors may be masked by applying household furniture polish which contains self-stripping wax. The Formica Group notes that such products will not repair the damage, but may help to conceal it.
Formica laminate surfaces can be scratched by abrasive cleansers or abrasive applicators such as steel wool or scouring pads. Scratches and abrasions cannot be repaired, but the Formica Group notes that minor abrasions may be concealed by polishing the affected area with products containing lemon oil and a self-stripping wax. The manufacturer does not recommend using any product that contains wax, oil or polish on its laminate floors.
