How to Kill a Stink Bug Without Making It Stink

Stink bug, also known as the shield bug, is not usually dangerous to humans and is considered more of a nuisance. However, this bug can cause crop damage to some fruits and vegetables, such as apples, peaches, corn, tomatoes and Lima beans. Stink bugs usually make their way indoors seeking refuge from the cold. When crushed or trying to escape danger, they emit a foul odor, and hence, their name. You can eliminate a stink bug from your home without allowing it to emit an odor.

Instructions

Check for crevices and cracks in your home especially around doors, windows and exhaust fans. Seal them with silicone caulk using a caulk gun. While stink bugs may appear to have a hard shell, they can crawl through small spaces and enter homes without any difficulty.

Use a vacuum cleaner to collect the stink bugs from a room. However, do not try catching too many in one go. When they are collected in large numbers, stink bugs will emit their characteristic smell. Dispose off the vacuum bag into the outside garbage immediately to prevent the vacuum cleaner from picking up the stink.

Pick up each stink bug with your finger, taking care not to crush it, and toss it outdoors into the cold. These bugs cannot tolerate cold and will die. This should take care of the stink bugs without creating a stink in your home.

Spray aerosol pyrethrum fogger to kill stink bugs accumulated on ceilings and walls. However, this is only a short-term solution, as it does not stop the remaining stink bugs from re-entering into the room from their hiding places.
