Homemade Spray Buffing Solution

Ingredients

• Homemade spray buffing solution combines equal parts of distilled white vinegar and vegetable oil. Combine these ingredients into a spray bottle. Similar to a bottle of vinaigrette salad dressing, which includes vinegar and oil, the two ingredients don’t mix. Shake the spray bottle to continuously to combine the ingredients while you’re spray buffing.

Preparation

• Mopping the floor before spray buffing will improve the spray buffing results. Boil water and put the water in a mop bucket. Use a string mop and the hot water to wash the floors and prepare them for spray buffing. The hot water will clean and sanitize the floors thoroughly, and dry the floors in a few minutes because hot water evaporates quickly.

Application

• After the floor is clean and dry, shake the bottle of spray-buff solution and spray it onto a section of the floor. You can use either a buffing machine with a cotton pad or a lint-free cotton rag to spread the solution. Use another, dry lint-free cotton rag to dry the area when using a cotton rag. Clean the floor a section at a time. Repeat shaking the mixture, spraying a section, then spreading and drying the spray-buff solution.

Maintenance

• To maintain the clean, luminous shine from spray buffing, mop the floor with hot water at least once per week. Do not use detergents, because detergents can remove the oil protecting the finish. Ring out the string mop until it’s lightly dampened. Hot water and a string mop will redistribute the oil over time. Follow a figure-eight pattern when mopping to distribute the oil evenly. When the floor becomes dull, use the homemade spray-buff solution to restore its shine.
