How to Make Your Own Wall Cleaner

Making your own household cleaners accomplishes two tasks. It saves money and avoids the use of unnecessary chemicals. Simple homemade cleaners usually clean just as well as commercial cleaners. If you keep a few household items on hand, such as baking soda, you'll be ready to clean the walls when the need arises.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket and mix in 1/2 cup of ammonia, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda. This solution, according to Rogers State University, creates an all-purpose cleaner for interior walls. Use a sponge or soft rag to wash the walls, starting at the ceiling and working your way down to avoid streaking.

Combine baking soda and water to make a liquid paste that removes pencil, marker and crayon marks off of painted walls. Gently rub the paste on the wall with a soft rag or sponge in circular motions and rinse with a clean, wet rag or sponge.

Use plain vinegar to remove sticky substances, such as leftover, sticker adhesive, from walls. Soak a cotton ball or sponge with vinegar and saturate the sticky residue. Let the vinegar soak in for approximately 10 minutes and rub the sticky substance off in circular motions with a rag or sponge. Rinse afterward with a clean, wet rag or sponge.

Mix 1 cup of chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of water and use this mixture to clean mildew off of walls with a rag or sponge. Afterward, use a clean wet rag or sponge to rinse the walls.
