Removing Baked Egg From a Pot

Eggs burn easily when cooked at high temperatures. The top of the egg may look perfectly done while the bottom is baking onto the bottom of the pot. Cooking for a longer time at a lower temperature helps eliminate this issue. Removing the baked egg from the pot without damaging the finish on the interior requires a mild cleaner that loosens the egg without using abrasives. Egg residue tends to lift easily from the pot once it's loosened sufficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the pot in soapy water. Remove as much of the baked-on egg as possible with a nylon dish scrubber. Avoid scraping the pot if it has a nonstick coating.

    • 2

Sprinkle the egg with baking soda until it is completely covered. Fill the pot with enough water to full submerge the egg residue.

    • 3

Bring the water in the pot to a simmer over medium-high heat. Simmer for five minutes.

    • 4

Insert the edge of a spatula under the baked-on egg. Lift the egg residue from the bottom of the pot. It usually peels off easily after the baking soda treatment.

    • 5

Lay a fabric softener sheet over the egg residue if the baking soda didn't loosen it sufficiently for removal. Fill the pot with hot water and allow it to soak over night. The fabric softener in the sheet loosens any remaining egg.

    • 6

Wash the pot in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher to remove any remaining residue after the majority of the baked-on egg is loosened.
