How to Remove Anti-Slip Tape From Hardwood Stairs

Anti-slip tape is useful for holding down runners or carpeting, but the same quality that makes it effective for that purpose may make it a challenge to remove. Although most of the material may be peeled away with relative ease, the adhesive it leaves behind collects dirt and may pose a hazard for anyone using the stairs. Removing the residual adhesive takes a bit of time, but it is possible to eliminate all traces of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape away as much of the tape as will come up with a plastic credit card or a plastic utensil.

    • 2

Mix 1 tbsp. of mild liquid dish soap in 1 cup of hot water.

    • 3

Sponge the soapy water onto the tape. Work on only one or two steps at a time.

    • 4

Allow the soapy water to sit on the tape for five to 10 minutes to give it time to soften it up.

    • 5

Scrape at the tape again gently with the credit card or utensil.

    • 6

Wipe the area dry with a soft towel and inspect it for traces of the adhesive.

    • 7

Dampen a clean cloth with mineral oil and sponge it onto the remaining adhesive.

    • 8

Scrub the area gently with the cloth until all of the adhesive is gone.

    • 9

Wipe the area dry with a soft towel.
