How to Take Old Wax Off Bruce Floors

Bruce manufactures a variety of hardwood and laminate products. One of the company's products, Bruce Dura-Satin Wax Finish Floors, uses a paste wax to protect the wood and keep it looking nice throughout the years. If your floors are more than 10 years old or if an improper form of wax was used on the floor, it may be necessary to strip the floors and re-wax the surface. Removing the wax is not difficult and should not take long to complete. Wax the floor again immediately after stripping the floors to protect the wood from damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the floor by mopping it with mineral spirits. Do not use water-based cleaners on Bruce hardwood floors. Allow the mineral spirits to dry.

    • 2

Sand the floor with a handheld sander and a fine-grit sandpaper. This will remove any existing paste wax from the surface of the floor and expose the bare wood underneath. Do not sand any area of the floor for more than about 10 seconds or you could cause the floor to warp.

    • 3

Sweep up the sawdust with a broom. Mop the floor with mineral spirits once more. Allow the floor to dry completely before applying new wax.
