The Fastest Way to De-Ice Your Freezer

All freezers build up ice and frost over time. If you do not own a freezer that has an auto-defrost switch, you need to de-ice the freezer by hand. The quicker you get your freezer back to its original state, the less time your food items spend sitting in a cooler. This is accomplished by using a steam cleaner, which has the power to melt the ice while cleaning and sterilizing the freezer at the same time.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all of your food items from the freezer and set them in a cooler filled with ice.

    • 2

Unplug the freezer from its electrical outlet. This should be done for safety reasons, as well as aiding in the melting of the ice. Put on a pair of rubber gloves to protect your hands while removing the ice.

    • 3

Pour water in the water tank of a steam cleaner, plug it in and wait for it to heat up. Attach a cleaning nozzle to the front of the steam cleaner. Use the steam cleaner to melt the ice inside the freezer at a rapid rate. Move the cleaning nozzle from left to right across the ceiling, back, sides and bottom of the freezer. Drape a towel on the front edge of the freezer to catch any running water.

Wipe down the inside of the freezer with a lint-free towel so it is completely dry. Otherwise, any water left in the freezer will turn back to ice when you plug the freezer back into the wall outlet.
