Tips on High Glossing Furniture

Keeping a high glossy finish on a piece of furniture will make it look more luxurious than its cost would suggest. There are a number of ways to keep the glossy finish from becoming dull. You will need household supplies as well as those from a hardware store or a home-and-garden shop. Experience in woodworking will be helpful but is not a necessity.

Instructions

Apply mineral spirits to the edge of a soft cloth. Rub the edge of the cloth in a clockwise pattern over the section of the furniture whose glossy finish has been dulled by a waxy buildup. Continue to rub the cloth until 2 minutes have passed. Let the section air-dry before reapplying furniture polish spray to the piece of furniture.

Apply mineral spirits to one side of a soft cloth and briskly wipe the surface of the furniture from one end to the other. Let the surface air-dry. Remove the sheen from the surface by rubbing it from one side to the other with sandpaper. Blow off the surface with bursts of compressed air. The surface can now be repainted with a high-gloss lacquer.

Apply the UV protective polish to one side of a soft cloth. Wipe the surface of the furniture whose high-gloss will be protected by the UV coating with the cloth. Let the surface air-dry. Apply the furniture polish wax to an edge of another soft cloth. Rub the surface of the furniture from one end to the other with the edge of the cloth. Repeat this procedure, only with a dry polishing cloth.
