How to Fix an Uneven Corian Countertop

Corian is a manufactured surface created by DuPont. The surface is most often used as a countertop, around sinks and for backsplashes. It is nonporous, low-maintenance, food-grade and comes in a wide variety of colors. Unevenness or a blotchy appearance on the surface of Corian usually has one of two causes: water stains or small scratches in the surface. Luckily, both can be repaired fairly easily by the homeowner.

Instructions

  1. Water Stains

    • 1

Apply a small amount of a mild abrasive liquid cleanser to a clean, damp sponge.

    • 2

Rub the cleanser on the area of the countertop that appears uneven. Using light pressure and overlapping circular motions, cover all of the affected surface.

    • 3

Rinse the area thoroughly with clean water.

    • 4

Dry the countertop completely and check for unevenness. If some still appears, repeat the previous steps, applying more pressure.

    Scratches

    • 5

Clean the affected area as instructed in Section 1, but leave the rinsed surface wet.

    • 6

Use an abrasive pad and rub over the affected area, rinsing the pad often. Rub in straight lines, changing direction periodically by 90 degrees. Rub until you no longer see the scratches.

    • 7

Clean the surface thoroughly with water and dry.

    • 8

Repeat the process if the scratches remain.

    • 9

Rub with a slightly less abrasive pad to help blend the area into the surrounding countertop, using finer pads if necessary to further blend the area. Buff out with a polishing pad to achieve an even gloss.
