How to Clean Interlocking Floors

Interlocking floors offer quick installation and, if well-cared for, last for years in your home. Foam interlocking floors are ideal for use in a child's playroom or exercise room. The foam padding repels most spills and stains, making cleanup hassle-free. Interlocking laminate flooring gives your home the beauty of a real wood floor for a fraction of the price. Laminate flooring is susceptible to water damage and liquid spills. Both types of interlocking flooring are best cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth.

Instructions

  1. Interlocking Foam Flooring

    • 1

Sweep up dirt and other dry debris with a soft-bristle broom or a brush.

    • 2

Soak up liquid spills immediately to prevent the liquid from seeping through the cracks between the foam pads.

    • 3

Dampen a mop or towel to clean small parts of the foam floor. Squeeze excess water out of the mop or towel before cleaning.

    • 4

Disconnect glueless foam tiles and remove them to clean beneath them. You cannot remove glue-down tiles.

    • 5

Run a wet-floor vacuum over glue-down foam tiles for a deep cleaning.

    Interlocking Laminate Flooring

    • 6

Wipe up liquid spills with a damp, not wet, cloth. Leaving liquids on laminate for a long period of time may cause damage.

    • 7

Use a vacuum cleaner with a hard floor attachment to pick up dry spills or dirt.

    • 8

Dab nail polish remover on stains such as ink, paint or markers. Blot the stain gently and wipe the area with a damp towel.

    • 9

Remove spilled chewing gum or candle wax by holding an ice cube against the spill to harden it. Use a credit card to scrape up the spill.
