How to Keep Clear Plexiglas Clean on Shower Stalls

A Plexiglas shower stall is thick, durable and water-resistant, and it can enhance the look of your bathroom when kept in good condition. In order to keep your clear Plexiglas stall clean, you must perform regular maintenance on an ongoing basis. If you allow dirt, grease and soap scum to accumulate, not only will the stall appear dirty, it will also become increasingly difficult to clean. Make shower stall maintenance a part of your weekly cleaning regimen.

Wipe down the stall with a clean towel after every shower. If you allow hard-water spots to dry on the Plexiglas, they will leave behind mineral deposits that accumulate and cover the surface of the Plexiglas. By wiping down your shower stall after each use, you can minimize this problem.

Clean your Plexiglas stall using a neutral cleaner. This includes mild dish detergent mixed with water, or a commercially prepared pH-neutral cleaning solution, which you can buy at home improvement stores. Apply the solution to a soft, nonabrasive sponge and scrub the shower stall inside and out. Do not use anything with a rough surface, such as a scouring pad, or you may permanently damage the Plexiglas.

Dry the shower stall thoroughly by hand after each cleaning. Failure to do so may cause streaks and spots to remain on the Plexiglas, compromising your entire cleaning effort. If your bathroom has a window, open it to promote air circulation and help the stall to dry more quickly.

Spot-treat your shower stall with highly diluted bleach if you find yourself plagued with impossible stains. Chlorine bleach is extremely powerful, so you can remove difficult stains even if you use only 1 part bleach mixed with 16 parts water. Spray the bleach solution gently onto the stain and scrub with a damp sponge. Rinse the Plexiglas stall and dry thoroughly.
