Keeping Vinyl Cove Baseboards Clean

Remove Dust

• Dust and dirt buildup on vinyl cove baseboards leaves them looking dull and dirty. The unsightly appearance affects the room in general, and the dirt can easily be spread to the wall and floor surfaces. It's important to remove dust and dirt on a regular basis. A microfiber dust mop or cloth is effective for getting surface dust and dirt off your vinyl cove baseboards. Wipe the baseboards twice each week to prevent dust from building up on the vinyl.

Get Rid of Scuffs

• Office and waiting room chairs are moved again and again throughout a busy day. As they bump into the vinyl cove baseboards, scuffs from other surfaces can be left in the vinyl. These scuffs detract from the overall appearance of your vinyl, making it look old and dirty. Scuffs are simple to get rid of and should be removed daily. Rub the scuffs with a dampened stain erasing sponge until they're removed. Follow up by drying the vinyl with a soft cloth.

Keep It Clean

• Once each week, your vinyl cove baseboards should be cleaned to get rid of stains or stuck-on particles of dust and dirt. Regular, weekly cleanings will contribute toward the longevity of your cove baseboards and help maintain their appearance. Stir 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent — the kind used to hand-wash dishes — into 1 gallon of hot water. After soaking a soft cloth in the soap solution, wring it out to remove excess water. Scrub the vinyl baseboards to remove stains and dirt. Follow up by rinsing the baseboards with a damp cloth and then drying them with another cloth.

Moisturize

• Over time, vinyl surfaces become dry due to exposure to sun, heat and other light elements. Dryness can lead to fading color and cracking vinyl, ultimately affecting the condition and appearance of your baseboards. A vinyl moisturizer keeps the material moist and conditioned, which helps maintain the color of the baseboards. Once each month, pour a quarter-sized amount of vinyl conditioner onto a soft cloth. Rub the conditioner into approximately 4 to 6 feet of the vinyl baseboard at a time. Allow the conditioner to soak in for 15 minutes before wiping off any excess.
