How to Give a Shine to Formica Laminate

A Formica laminate surface on your countertop or floor can lend to the attractiveness of a room for years. This low-maintenance material readily stands up to normal use and is easy to keep clean. If traffic on your Formica has left it looking dirty and dull, you can restore the laminate surface with the use of simple supplies found around the home. By keeping your Formica surface clean and stain free regularly, you can maintain shine and condition.

  • Microfiber cloths

  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Nonabrasive cream cleaner

      Wipe your Formica laminate surface daily with a microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt lying on the surface.

      Fill a bucket with 2 quarts of warm water. Add four to five drops of dishwashing detergent.

      Dishwashing detergent safely cleans Formica laminate.

      Dampen a clean microfiber cloth with the diluted detergent solution. Wipe down the Formica laminate surface once or twice each week to remove dirt and stains stuck to the surface.

      Tackle stuck-on stain matter with a nonabrasive cream cleaner. Apply a pea-sized amount of the cream cleaner to a damp cloth and scrub the stain until it's removed.

      Rinse your laminate surface immediately with club soda. Moisten a clean microfiber cloth with club soda and wipe the Formica to remove the detergent solution. Rinse your microfiber cloth frequently and continue to wipe down the entire Formica laminate surface.

      Dry the Formica with another cloth. As you dry the surface, buff it to a shine.

      Remove any marks left during the drying process by spritzing them with window cleaner and buffing the laminate surface.
