How to Dissolve Burnt Food on a Stove

If you cook, you know how frustrating it is to have burnt food on your stove top. The best way to combat burnt foods on your stove is to clean spills immediately after the stove top cools. If sugar is the culprit, it is usually more difficult to clean after it cools, and it should be carefully wiped away even while the stove is still warm. Clean your stove top according to instructions in the user's manual so you do not harm the finish and void an active warranty.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a wet sponge or rag on top of the burnt food and let the moisture soak in for 20 to 30 minutes. This may be all it takes to dissolve the burnt food. You can also try moistening the sponge or rag with hot, soapy water and setting it on the burnt food for 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 2

Soak a rag or sponge with white vinegar, and set it on top of the burnt food. Vinegar can sometimes break up and dissolve stubborn burnt-on foods.

    • 3

Apply a cleaner specially made for your type of stove top, especially if it is made of ceramic or glass. Work the cleaner into the burnt food with a rag and let it soak, per manufacturer instructions, before scrubbing the area clean.

    • 4

Combine water and baking soda to create a mildly abrasive paste. Work it into the burnt food with a rag or soft toothbrush, and let it soak in for approximately 20 minutes. Baking soda works well in dissolving burnt foods, including sugar.

Scrub the burnt food with a special cleaning eraser available in the cleaning aisle of most supermarkets. The cleaning eraser is a sponge with cleaning ingredients embedded in it. Moisten the special cleaning eraser, and it should rub off the burnt on food as you scrub.
