How to Clean Decorative Rocks in the Sink

Decorative rocks are a versatile and common object in landscape designs, aquariums, gardens and indoor decor. Over time, the decorative rock will become dirty, grimy and require a thorough cleaning. If the decorative rocks are small enough, utilize your sink to help you clean the rocks more easily. Before beginning the cleaning process, test the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the decorative rock. Discontinue use if damage or discoloration appears.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the inside of a sink clean with paper towels. Lay an old towel flat on the countertop next to the sink.

    • 2

Cover the drain with a drain stopper. Fill the sink with warm water, and add several drops of gentle dish soap.

    • 3

Mist the decorative rock with undiluted white vinegar to remove mold, mildew or algae. Scrub the fungus off the rock with a scrub brush. Skip this step if fungus is not present on the rocks.

    • 4

Submerge the decorative rock in the soapy water. Scrub the rock clean with a soft-bristled scrub brush.

    • 5

Rinse the soapy solution off of the decorative rock with warm water. Place the clean rock on the towel. Allow it to dry for several hours.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until you have cleaned all of the decorative rocks.
