How to Make Maple Floors Shine

Maple hardwood flooring is often used in gyms and multipurpose rooms due to its durability and simple maintenance. The warm color and minimal care requirements also make it a suitable choice for inside the home. Maple flooring is usually sealed or coated so it provides a high shine. You can maintain the shine indefinitely inside a home since the floor doesn't see heavy or extreme use as it would in a gym. Proper cleaning maintains the shine and prevents permanent damage from ruining the maple planks.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the floor with a dust mop at least once a day. The dust mop removes soil and fine pieces of grit that can scratch and dull the maple surface. Sweep under rugs and furniture and get into the corners where dirt tends to accumulate.

    • 2

Mix one part vinegar with two parts warm water. Alternatively, use a commercial maple or hardwood floor cleaner. Dampen the mop in the cleaner and wring it out until it's barely moist. Mop the entire floor with the cleaner, using it sparingly.

Dry the floor immediately after mopping, with a soft cloth. Standing water can break down the floor's finish. Water also causes the wood to swell, which results in permanent damage. Buff the floor dry with the cloth to bring out the natural shine in the wood.
