How to Clean a Deep Fry Cooker

In a deep fry cooker, you can cook french fries, onion rings, fried chicken, donuts, egg rolls and fried mushrooms similar to your favorite restaurant. Larger, outdoor cookers can even fry a turkey, a tradition in many homes. Each fryer is different and one part in one fryer can be immersed in water while the same part in another can not, so read the user’s manual. Some general cleaning instructions, though, apply to home deep fry cookers.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the fryer and let it cool before cleaning. Note that it could take three or more hours for the oil to cool completely.

    • 2

Remove detachable items such as the basket, vent cover, lid and oil pan from the base. This varies among deep fryers.

    • 3

Empty the excess oil out of the oil pan. You can pour it into empty jars or containers to discard.

    • 4

Wipe down the oil pot, basket and the other oily parts with paper towels to get rid of more of the oil.

    • 5

Immerse the washable parts of your deep fryer in hot, soapy water. Clean with a rag or sponge, then rinse under hot, running water. Some cookers have parts that can be washed in the dishwasher.

    • 6

Clean the outside of the deep fryer and timer with a rag moistened with hot, soapy water. Rinse the rag with clean water, then wipe the parts to rinse. Dry with an absorbent towel. Clean the inside of the deep fryer and other parts that cannot be immersed in water in a similar manner.
