How to Clean Glass With a Buffer

Several companies manufacture products specifically designed to clean glass surfaces, such as windows, doors and tables. But if your glass starts to dull from a buildup of dirt and grime, removing stains might require a buffer. Home improvement stores sell buffers in a variety of sizes. These tools not only clean glass surfaces, they also polish and restore shine to surfaces.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the home improvement store and select an appropriately sized buffing wheel. The size of your project determines the size of the wheel. For example, a small buffing wheel might adequately clean a small window, whereas you might need a larger buffing wheel to clean a glass patio door or glass shower door.

    • 2

Connect the buffing wheel to your hand-held electric drill by sliding the wheel onto the drill's spindle or shaft. Give the buffing wheel a tug to ensure a secure fit.

    • 3

Apply painter's tape along the borders or frame of the glass surface.

    • 4

Apply a mild abrasive cleaner to a cloth or sponge. Gently wipe the surface with the cloth or sponge to transfer the cleaner to the glass.

    • 5

Select a speed on your electric drill, position the drill and buffing wheel against the surface and gently clean the glass. Continue buffing until you have a clean, polished surface.

    • 6

Wipe the glass with a cloth to remove traces or remnants of the cleaner.
