Decide where you are going to place your stockpile. Some options are in closets, in storage bins in the basement, in bins under the bed or in racks against the wall. Your space designates how much food and dry goods you can store.
Choose the goods that you want to stockpile by figuring out what non-perishable food and goods your family uses most. Toilet paper, toothpaste and soap are some examples that you can get from the grocery store. When it comes to food, consider rice, pasta, canned foods, foods in jars, and bulk grains.
Set aside a stockpile budget. Every week, use a set amount of cash to purchase items that will not go bad and which can be placed in your stockpile.
Buy only items that are on sale, and when you buy them, buy as many as you can afford. The key to a good stockpile is to get everything as cheaply as possible on the understanding that you will eventually use it.
Use coupons. Coupons, especially on used on double coupon days, help you build your stockpile quickly.
