Ask family members and friends. If you have books you are not going to read or clothing in good condition that you will not wear, try to give the items to a friend who would most likely want them or get the most use out of them.
Recycle unwanted items by turning them into something you can use. For example, you can create bird feeders using old teacups and saucers glued together and attached to a pole. Mason jars have a variety of other uses including storing nuts, bolts and buttons.
Sell the unwanted items at a yard sale. Price each item using a piece of masking tape and marker. The day of the sale, make a sign stating "Yard Sale" or "Garage Sale" and place it in front of the location you are having the sale.
Donate the items to a charity. Not only will you be helping someone in need and getting rid of your unwanted items, you can write the donation off on your taxes.
